WATER CHARGES

All metered connections are billed on a yearly basis, and will be read in January and bills will be processed and sent to customers in February. If customers wish to give details of there email address to the scheme all data will be sent by email in the strictest confidence.

A free allowance is given on occupied domestic houses within the scheme. An allowance cannot be given on rented accommodation or holiday homes or commercial premises. The allowance is currently 160 m3 per year (160,000 litres). All usage above the free allowance is billed at the charges set at the Annual General Meeting, currently €1 per meter cubed (m3). Unused free allowance is not carried from year to year.

It is important that you read your water meter regularly as water leakage over a period of time can result in a large water bill.

If you have financial difficulty in paying your bill you should contact the manager, who will work out a payment plan in the strictest confidence.

An arrears management procedure exists for dealing with those refusing to pay, which can result in termination of the connection.

NEW CONNECTIONS

Residential / Business €2000 + Road License Charges which may vary from €300 to €800

Application forms can be downloaded or alternatively can be got from the manager in Kantoher Office. Upon payment of the connection fee if the applicant needs proof for the Planning Department that they have being accepted as a GWS member this will be furnished to the applicant.

A boundary box and water meter will be installed when the connection is made and will be located in a safe place that will suit the property owner.

Water allocation for GWS house-holders under ‘Equity and Fairness’ agreement

As it was felt that GWS members were being unfairly treated as compared to public supplied customers the NFGWS went into lengthy negotiations with the Department to try and bring all users of private or publicly sourced schemes on the same charging system. The NFGWS worked extremely hard to negotiate a great deal for its customers and a great deal of gratitude is due to them.

From the beginning of 2018 all domestic consumers will be entitled to 160m3 (160,000liters) per annum free. If this allowance is exceeded the customer will be charged at €1.00 per m3.

It remains in the interest of the consumer to make sure they stay within the free allowance limits. Consumers should regularly check their  meter for leak and read the meter at least 4 times a year. An end of year reading will be supplied with your Bill/Invoice in February. The GWS should be informed immediately of any leaks and this can be done by contacting the Manager or any Committee member or through the Website. The GWS will give every assistance and advice to the customer if a leak is reported.  Leaks cost the Consumer and the GWS extra costs.

Check your meter as often as you like. To check your meter all you will need is a screwdriver to release the meter box cover. When reading the meter the red numbers are liters and the white are meters cubed (m3). 1000 litres = 1 m3.

If you suspect you may have a leak read the meter and record the day and time and read it again in 24 hrs. If the reading is in excess of 500 litres you possibly have a leak.

Check all toilets, taps and water troughs for damaged fittings and repair the leak if located. If there are no visible signs of a leak, then it is probable that you have a leaking pipe underground. Check for soft ground along your pipe route. If you fail to locate the leak don’t ignore it inform the GWS. Leaks can be very damaging to house foundations over a period of time.
