27 Aug West Limerick GWS Water Main Improvements, Killeedy.
West Limerick GWS recently completed maintenance work on the Ballylanigan Rd, Ballykenny Rd and Ballintobber Rd. All collars were replaced and were leaking badly. As a result of this work flows and leaks have reduced considerably and in turn will reduce costs to the Scheme. Approximately 10km of water main collars have been replaced and members have commented that very little leaks are now occurring on the Scheme.
It is hoped to carry on with this work on other parts of the Scheme later this year.
All collars have been replaced on the Gurteen/Lane Rd and also from Twomey’s Cross through Ashford Village. We have just recently laid a new section of road surface on both sides of Ashford Village.
A new section of main was laid in Dromroe and extended to a new member.
As stated, in other posts the GWS will be replacing the main from Connell’s Cross to Keating’s shop in May 2026. The main from Kantoher Cross to the junctions of Ballyowen, Ballykenny and Ballylanigan will also be replaced and planned to start in June 2026. A further section from the east of Ashford to Twomey’s Cross will be replaced in September/October 2026.
These works may cause some disruption to road users but “short term pain is long term gain”.
Old and damaged Member Meter Boxes have been replaced and concreated and old meters replaced.
